Australian BMW X2 range expanding with sDrive18i & xDrive20d

BMW Australia will expand the new X2 compact SUV range a little later this year, following the new model’s arrival here this month.

Adding to the existing sDrive20i variant, which comes with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder producing 141kW and 280Nm, capable of 0-100km/h in 7.7 seconds, BMW is introducing the sDrive18i and xDrive20d in June.

The sDrive18i will become the new entry variant, equipped with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol three-cylinder engine producing 103kW and 220Nm. It’s able to scoot off from 0-100km/h in 9.6 seconds, with fuel economy figures yet to be announced. It comes with an eight-speed automatic, with front-wheel drive to conserve fuel.

At the other end of the range, the xDrive20d will come in as the new flagship variant. It uses a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine to generate 140kW and 400Nm, capable of stopping the clock in 7.7 seconds across the 0-100km/h sprint. Fuel consumption is rated at 5.1L/100km on the combined cycle. The 20d is the only all-wheel drive version in the range.

If you haven’t heard of the BMW X2, this is the German company’s funky new city-ready compact SUV. It sits along side the X1 as the sporty, four-door coupe-like brother, a bit like the X6 to the X5. Speaking about the expanding range, BMW Australia CEO Marc Werner said:

“We have already seen strong interest in the X2, both via initial media reviews as well as in the dealerships and on our website. Now we have taken the opportunity to fill out the range, offering a strong entry offering in the sDrive18i, as well as the xDrive20d, a turbo-diesel, all-wheel drive range topper.”

The new models will go on sale from the following prices (excluding on-road costs). See further below for some of the highlight standard features for each variant.
