2020 MINI Clubman JCW confirmed for Australia, fastest ever

MINI Australia has confirmed it will soon launch its fastest model yet, with the introduction of the 2020 Clubman John Cooper Works (JCW) and 2020 Countryman JCW.

As revealed in May, power comes from BMW’s latest 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine that we first saw with the X2 M35i and then the new M135i AWD hatch. For the 2020 Clubman JCW, the outputs are 225kW, which is up an impressive 55kW over the outgoing model, and 450Nm.

All of this power is sent through an eight-speed automatic transmission and into an ALL4 all-wheel drive system as standard. The drive system comes with a launch control function and features a limited-slip differential for the front axle.

Out on the tarmac this amount of grunt results in serious acceleration. MINI claims 0-100km/h is taken care of in just 4.9 seconds, making it the quickest MINI production car ever, so far. This new engine will also be available in the 2020 Countryman JCW coming to Australia, offering a 0-100km/h sprint of 5.1 seconds.

Being a product of John Cooper Works, the new Clubman JCW showcases a range of performance highlights. A set of 19-inch alloy wheels hide 360mm front and 330mm rear disc brakes, while the ride height is lowered by 10mm thanks to a bespoke sports suspension setup with adaptive settings.

Inside, passengers are treated to an 8.8-inch Professional grade multimedia system with sat-nav, and the upholstery is made up of Cross Punch leather in carbon black, with sports seats. Piano black trimmings are used to decorate the cabin, and tunes are played through a Harman/Kardon 12-speaker sound system.

For the first time (as far as we know), MINI will also offer a JCW Clubman ‘Pure’ variant. It comes with 18-inch wheels, the same 8.8-inch infotainment system, but with unique JCW seats in Dinamica and leather. There’s also the Black Line trim pack for the exterior, but it misses out on the high-end stereo.

The 2020 MINI Clubman and Countryman range will go on sale in Australia during the fourth quarter of this year. See below for the starting prices (excludes on-roads), and further below for highlight standard features.
