Local prices and specifications for the new 2016 BMW X1 have been announced, just ahead of its market entry in October. The two-wheel drive sDrive models will arrive in December.
BMW Australia is offering customers four different variant levels for the new, front-wheel-drive-based X1, spanning from the sDrive18d, sDrive20i, to the all-wheel drive xDrive20d and xDrive25i.
Underneath the latest X1 is BMW Group’s new UKL front-wheel drive architecture also featured on MINI vehicles. This is the first time BMW is offering a front-drive version of its smallest SUV, with previous ‘sDrive’ models utilising rear-wheel drive.
With the new platform comes more interior space, with 57mm added to rear legroom, and 505 litres of cargo space expandable to a whopping 1550 litres with the seats down – 85L larger than the outgoing model.
The xDrive20d version comes with a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder producing 140kW and 400Nm, capable of 0-100km/h in 7.6 seconds. It offers an average consumption rate of just 4.9L/100km.
In the xDrive25i is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder developing 170kW and 350Nm, capable of 0-100km/h in a brisk 6.5 seconds. This engine offers an average consumption of 6.6L/100km.
All variants come with the xLine trimming package as standard, along with a rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, the Driving Assistance package, LED headlights, ConnectedDrive LifeStyle, real-time traffic updates, and a power-operated tailgate. A minimum of 18-inch wheels are also part of the standard items.
