Mitsubishi has announced a refresh for its ever-popular ASX small SUV in Australia, which boasts a number of exterior and interior upgrades over its predecessor.

With the 2017 ASX, Mitsubishi has drawn design influence from the Outlander and Pajero Sport’s ‘dynamic shield’ design language, adding some black and chrome finishes across the front grille, as well as adding a new shark fin antenna. In addition, fog lamps have replaced the outgoing daytime running lamps.

Inside, there’s been an overhaul of Mitsubishi’s MMI system, which now has new graphics and redesigned menus to navigate with ease and sync smartphones as quickly as possible. There’s also new seat base bolstering to increase comfort for passengers in the rear, with the LS variant receiving new fabric trim and red stitching.

The ASX is offered with a comprehensive safety package that has helped it receive a five-star ANCAP safety rating; made up of seven airbags, reversing camera and sensors and the RISE (reinforced impact safety evolution) body construction.

Mitsubishi’s Australian executive director of marketing, Tony Principe, explained that the ASX became the benchmark small SUV when it first entered the market in 2010.

“ASX is our number one-selling SUV, and for good reason – it hits all the right markers for small SUV buyers with an abundance of style, features and great packaging. The new, Dynamic Shield 2017 ASX will make a bold statement with plenty of youthful appeal and new features to help it remain one of Australia’s most popular small SUVs,” Principe said.
