The new Toyota LandCruiser Prado has officially arrived in Australia with the new 2.8-litre diesel and six-speed automatic, and a revised V6 petrol.
The 2.8-litre turbo-diesel and six-speed automatic combination debuted in the new HiLux ute, and for the Prado, it brings improved fuel efficiency and an increase in power and torque.
Called the 1GD-FTV, the four-cylinder engine produces 130kW (up 5kW) of power and 420Nm of torque. Maximum torque peaks at 450Nm when optioned with the six-speed automatic. Combined cycle fuel economy is rated at 7.9L/100km in the manual and 8.0L/100km in the automatic – the manual sees an improvement of 10.2 per cent compared with the outgoing model.
For the petrol fans, Toyota has updated the 4.0-litre naturally aspirated V6 to produce 207kW of power and 381Nm of torque. It too is kinder to the environment, producing 1.8 per cent fewer emissions thanks to new injectors and a revised ECU. Both engines are Euro 5 compliant.
The Prado lineup remains intact, starting with the diesel-only GX, followed by the GXL, VX, and Kakadu which are available with either engine. Seven seats is only available with the GX, while the VX and Kakadu are auto only.
Prices have risen, but only slightly, with jumps of less than 0.5 per cent and up to 2.6 per cent. The new model is now officially on sale with prices starting from the following:
