Up for sale is this clean 1971 Datsun 1600 GL station wagon. It features a Nissan SR20 turbo engine that has some cool HKS bits and pieces, as well as a Microtec ECU, PWR radiator, and a serious fuel system. With its mix of old and new, it certainly makes for a compelling rear-wheel drive retro rocket
Suspension-wise, the station wagon is fitted up with Datsun 240K struts, adjustable shocks, and new springs front and rear. The brakes have been replaced with slotted and drilled discs at each corner to make sure all that power can come to a halt. And the rear features an R180 limited-slip differential to make good use of its powerful Nissan engine. Power is fed through a five-speed manual transmission.
The interior has been retrimmed in ivory leather with green suede inserts, with Mazda RX7 seats used up front.
The car looks as if it’s been resprayed, and the body appears to be in excellent condition – especially for a car that’s almost 43 years old. The old-school pack rack on top gives the car some retro appeal, and no doubt would come in handy should you need move house, or, carry a set of slicks to the track.
It’s not everyday a Datsun 1600 goes up for sale, becoming rarer and rarer as time goes by, especially in station wagon form.
This car has no doubt had some money spent on it, hence why the owner is asking $19,500.
