Renowned European Ford tuner Mountune is working with Ford Australia to introduce performance upgrades for the Fiesta ST and Focus ST, which will soon be available through Ford dealers, backed by a comprehensive Ford warranty.
Coming mid-year, the first upgrades will be for the Fiesta ST and Focus ST. The former will rise to 158kW at 6000rpm and a chunky 320Nm at 3000rpm. This is quite a sizable upgrade from the 134kW and 240Nm output of the standard 1.6-litre turbo firecracker. The tune will be available for a not-unreasonable $2328.
The Focus ST, with its larger 2.0-litre Ecoboost engine, jumps to 202kW at 5500rpm and 400Nm at 2750rpm, up from 184kW and 360Nm. It’ll be yours for an additional $4135 above the standard Focus ST price.
Mountune has always worked closely with Ford’s European arm and now the company seeks to roll out the upgrades across the globe to grab dollars that would otherwise go to aftermarket tuners.
While the standard Fiesta and Focus are very enjoyable machines to drive, we can’t wait to see just what a difference these upgrades make. No word as yet for upgrades to the epic 257kW Focus RS or Mondeo, but these are possible down the track. Graeme Whickman, president and CEO at Ford Australia, said:
“We think our new Mountune Performance packs will bring even more excitement as we expand our performance vehicle lineup as part of plans to launch 20 new vehicles by 2020.”
The upgrades will be available as part of the recently announced Ford Licensed Accessories (FLA) program, and will be covered by Ford Express New Vehicle Warranty of three years/100,000kms when fitted at point of new vehicle sale. Details of the kits for each hot hatch are as follows:
Mountune Ford Fiesta ST performance upgrade:
- Custom aluminium high-flow airbox with dual cold air feeds
- Mountune high-flow panel air filter
- Porous lower air feed hose
- Required hardware / clips
- Revised engine calibration
- Mountune Performance badge
- mTune handset for performance calibration
Mountune Ford Focus ST performance upgrade:
- Large-capacity alloy intercooler (black no logo)
- Low-cost cast crossover duct (black)
- High-flow dual-entry air filter
- Revised engine calibration
- Mountune Performance badge
- mTune handset for performance calibration
This is a bit of a rip off. You can take your fiesta st to a dealer in Europe and have the whole Mp215 upgrade fitted (no handset required) for under £700.00 or about $1500 au. Why the price hike. Also will Mountune intercoolers, hard charge pipes, sport cats, cat back exhausts & roll restrictors be acceptable warranted upgrades, as they are in Europe & the U.S. or is this the usual half arsed treatment I’m used to from ford Australia?
