Oil producers, eat your heart out. Audi is well on its way to producing its own synthetic fuel it calls ‘e-benzin’, made from 100 per cent iso-octane.
The German manufacturer has been collaborating with Global Bioenergies to develop sustainable synthetic fuels, and the useable fuel contains absolutely zero petroleum.
The fuel, according to Audi, has an outstanding octane rating of 100 RON. It also contains no sulphur or benzene, resulting in a very clean and a more environmentally friendly burn compared with regular petrol. Reiner Mangold, Audi’s head of Sustainable Product Development, said in a statement:
“Global Bioenergies has demonstrated the viability of the Audi e-benzin production process. That is a big step in our Audi e-fuels strategy.”
Audi intends to continue improving the solution in the hope that e-benzin will be produced by hydrogen, carbon dioxide, sunlight and water in the near future.
Audi has already refined the production of its e-diesel fuel, which can be produced sustainably with water, oxygen and green energy.
