Volvo, never shy about throwing some of Sweden’s finest technology into its cars, has just released an update for its ‘On Call’ system that now allows smartwatches to control functions of the car. No, you can’t drive purely from your watch.
Owners of an Apple or Android smartwatch can now sync their wearable technology with their Volvo and enjoy a host of new features, both convenient and for added safety. Volvo explains:
“[On Call] allows you to literally take control over everyday elements in your Volvo. You can set heater timings for those cold and frosty mornings or cool down your car in hot weather, check your fuel level and mileage, or time to next service. It even helps you to locate your car in a crowded parking garage.”
Aside from all the trivial conveniences the app offers, Volvo also insists there are some serious benefits of its On Call system. For instance, when airbags are deployed during a collision, the system can automatically call emergency services and provide them with your location.
Volvo’s On Call system comes as standard in Canada, America and Brazil, while everyone else is required to add it to their vehicle as an optional extra.
