Matching lightweight agility with serious power and torque outputs, the Lotus Exige S is one of the best bang-for-your-buck buys currently on the market. The supercar is now on sale in Australia.
Powered by a supercharged version of the Toyota-sourced 3.5-litre V6, also seen in the Evora, the Exige S produces 257.5kW and 400Nm. It’s able to demolish 0-100km/h in just 4.0 seconds, and hit a top speed of 274km/h.
Part of this performance comes from an engineering focus on being as light in weight as possible. With a kerb weight of just 1200kg, it offers a power-to-weight ratio of 4.6kg:1kW. This is a similar sort of ratio as the Audi R8 V8, and not far off the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.
The Exige S comes with a range of performance-oriented technical features, such as 350mm front brakes, and Lotus’s Dynamic Performance Management (DPM) system with three different driving modes; Touring, Sport, and DPM off. There’s also an optional Race Pack which includes launch control and a Race driving mode with revised suspension.
Standard features inside include sports bucket seats, a four-speaker stereo with USB compatibility, an aluminium passenger foot rest for track stints, and air-conditioning. Cruise control and leather upholstery are optional.
Alastair Manihera, brand manager for Lotus Australia and New Zealand, recently spoke about the new addition to the company’s current two-model lineup, saying,
“The new Exige S offers raw supercar performance, agility, unparalleled ride and handling and mind blowing drive experience, attributes that people have come to expect from Lotus but taken to a new level with the Exige S.”
