Pricing and specs for the all-new 2019 Jeep Wrangler have been announced for the Australian market, ahead of its showroom arrival penned in for April this year.
Three main trim lines will go on sale in Australia, spanning from the Sport S, Overland, to the top Rubicon. These are then split up into 2-door and 4-door, although the Rubicon is only available in 4-door form. All are powered by a 3.6-litre petrol V6 engine producing 209kW, except the Rubicon is also available with a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel producing 147kW. All examples are matched to an eight-speed automatic with full-time four-wheel drive.
Inside, all models come nicely packaged with a range of convenience-minded features and the latest gadgets. The entry Sport S uses a 7.0-inch Uconnect touch-screen media interface, while all others use an 8.4-inch screen. In either case, a rear-view camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and at least eight speakers are standard (nine-speaker Alpine unit for Overland and Rubicon).
Jeep claims the new Wrangler is “the most capable SUV ever”. It might look pretty similar to the old model, but as initially revealed in November 2017, the new model features a facelifted design. The headlights and taillights are more modern, with new trimmings providing a slightly more sophisticated theme. However, the trademark seven-slot grille remains, as do the exposed external door hinges. Guillaume Drelon, head of Jeep brand at FCA Australia, said:
“The all-new Wrangler may have evolved, but its core DNA remains unchanged, making this the most capable production SUV on the planet. The Jeep Wrangler sets a precedence by offering renewed levels of style, advanced technology and safety features while remaining true to its rich heritage.”
For the first time the Wrangler will be available with some advanced safety technologies, such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and rear cross-traffic alert. There’s also roll mitigation technology, blind-spot monitoring, and of course stability and traction control.
Local buyers will be able to select from over 130 Mopar accessories for their Wrangler, helping to personalise their order to make sure their vehicle stands out from the others. Parts range from exterior enhancements, to storage options, to vehicle protection tweaks for off-roading.
The 2019 Jeep Wrangler is scheduled to arrive in Australia in April, with pricing starting from the following (excluding on-road costs):
