2019 Hyundai Elantra on sale in Australia, Go variant added

Some updates and a new variant has been applied for the introduction of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra in Australia. The new model showcases a boost in standard features, and a refreshed design as previewed with the overseas model earlier this year.

Kicking off the range is a new Elantra Go (pictured above). This variant follows in the footsteps of the recently-introduced 2019 i30 Go and Tucson Go, giving value-conscious buyers a new, more affordable option. It’s not a completely stripped back model either. It comes equipped with a 7.0-inch touch-screen media interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Four variants make up the lineup overall, with Active, and new Sport and Sport Premium completing the range. The Sport and Sport Premium replace the outgoing SR models, however, the Sport continues with the 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 150kW.

Going for the Active and above gets you an 8.0-inch touch-screen packed with sat-nav, digital radio and Apple and Android connectivity. Tunes are played through an eight-speaker Infinity premium audio system. Hyundai’s SmartSense driver assistance is available as an option for the Go and Active auto models.

SmartSense includes high-tech systems such as autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change assist. There’s also adaptive cruise control and driver attention warning.

Both the Go and Active are powered by a 2.0-litre MPi four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 112kW and 192Nm. Going for the Sport models gets you the turbo engine as mentioned, along with a seven-speed dual-clutch auto (or six-speed manual) over the 2.0 MPi’s six-speed auto option.

The new model is on sale now from the following prices (excluding on-road costs). All variants are covered by Hyundai’s five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty. Images and prices for the Sport models are yet to be released.

2019 Hyundai Elantra G0 2.0MPi 6spd auto: $23,790
