The latest car to jump on the fashionable darkened theme is the the new Holden Astra RS Black Edition. It brings in a range of unique dark highlights to give it a sinister character.
Based on the Astra RS, which is the mid-spec variant, the new Holden Astra Black Edition showcases a black roof, unique black 17-inch alloy wheels, black side mirrors and door handles, and a bespoke black grille at the front. There’s also some ‘Black Edition’ decals down the sides.
Inside, the headliner is, you guessed it, black, while the rear of the cabin is made a bit more private thanks to tinted windows. Aside from that, the special edition features all of the usual comfort and convenience-focused features of the RS, including a 7.0-inch touch-screen media interface with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Power comes from the flagship 1.6-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine that produces 147kW and 280Nm. This is matched to a six-speed automatic with front-wheel drive. Fuel consumption on the official combined cycle is rated at 6.3L/100km.
In terms of acceleration, we’ve timed the Astra RS-V variant with the same engine and gearbox (slightly heavier due to more luxuries) in a surprisingly brisk 6.42 seconds. This makes it one of the quickest ‘warm hatches’ on sale according to our tests.
According Holden’s website the Astra RS Black Edition is on sale from $27,490 (drive-away), and will be available until September 30, 2019. Buyers can choose between Absolute Red, Nitrate Silver, and Summit White exterior colours.
