The latest Audi S8 has arrived in Australia and packs a punch like no other S model before it thanks to a storming twin-turbo V8 engine.
Priced from $279,000, the Audi S8 features a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that pumps out a whopping 382kW and 650Nm. Maximum torque is available from just 1700rpm.
Power is delivered through a quattro all-wheel drive system that uses a sport differential at the rear axle. The chassis is also fitted with adaptive air suspension and variable-ratio sports tuned dynamic steering.
Audi claims 0-100km/h arrives in just 4.1 seconds with acceleration coming to a halt at an electronically-limited 250km/h.
Despite the S8’s performance credentials, its combined fuel usage is rated at just 9.6L/100km with CO2 measuring 225 grams per kilometre.
The engine’s technological attributes are plentiful; featuring twin-scroll turbochargers, a cylinder on demand (COD) system that can shut down four cylinders under light throttle loads, and cylinder heads that keep the hot side on the inside.
The S8 is also fitted with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and active engine mounts, both working together to suppress noise and vibration for a smooth ride.
Safety-wise, the S8 comes with head-up display, active lane and side assist, parking assist, and adaptive cruise control.
The S8 is fitted with a Bose sound system, digital TV reception and digital radio. Rear passengers can make use of the electric sunblinds, while front passengers can relax in the heated and ventilated sports seats with massage functions.
Andrew Doyle, managing director of Audi Australia, said in a statement:
“Strength and sophistication complement each other perfectly in this extraordinary performance vehicle.
“The Audi S8 offers a very rare combination of pioneering technology, interior excellence and understated performance that will appeal to highly successful business executives who are also passionate drivers.”
