The cracking Renault Megane R.S. 275 Trophy has landed in Australia, designed to pay tribute to the front-wheel drive Nurburgring lap record set by the Megane Trophy-R. Just 100 examples will be on sale for local buyers.
Featuring the highest-tuned version of the company’s 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine, the special edition 275 Trophy produces 202kW (275PS) of power and 360Nm of torque. Even with a serious amount of power, fuel economy is rated at a reasonable 7.5L/100km.
Being a special edition the 275 Trophy comes with a number of very special features, including a titanium Akrapovic exhaust system, a unique livery with Trophy branding, build-numbered door sills, and a sporty bodykit with a Platinum Grey F1-type front blade.
Inside, passengers get Alcantara Recaro bucket seats, a Zamac gear lever for the driver, with red stitching used for various items throughout including the rear bench. Justin Hocevar, managing director Renault Australia, said,
“Created to commemorate our recent front-wheel-drive lap record of the notorious Nurburgring, the Megane R.S. 275 Trophy brings all the expertise of Renault Sport to life in an exciting and engaging package.”
So far this year Renault Australia has sold 1056 examples of the Megane (including R.S. models), which gives it just 0.7 per cent market share. The local arm is confident all 100 examples of the 275 will be sold quick fast. Hocevar said,
“As soon as this vehicle was launched globally we saw customers wanting to place a deposit to secure one in Australia. We’ve been able to secure an incredibly attractive price for such a special vehicle and I’m confident these 100 vehicles will be very popular with Renault Sport fans across Australia.”
It officially hits the market on September 30. Prices start at $52,990 which includes a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty.
