Fiat has confirmed it is planning to introduce a ute based on the Mitsubishi Triton. The two companies have just signed an agreement to lock in the plans.
There have been various rumours floating around recently, suggesting similar ideas. Mitsubishi and Fiat have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding regarding a Fiat version of the popular Triton.
This will be Fiat’s first step into the demanding market segment, especially in Australia. The new model model will be based on the next-gen Mitsubishi Triton.
So, what can we expect from the next-gen Triton? It’s understood the Japanese company is looking to improve refinement and technology for the 2015-2016 model, with increased safety across the board and probably a bit of a price hike. The design will be inspired by the GR-HEV concept (concept).
Fiat is likely to take on the developments made by Mitsubishi and incorporate a similar specification and technology showcase for its version.
Fiat may incorporate its Uconnect infotainment system and touch-screen into its version, with some unique styling cues to help separate it from the Triton brother.
Mitsubishi will unveil the new Triton later this year. The Fiat model is expected to appear on the market some time in 2016.
