Even though the new Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk7 has only been on sale for a short time, ABT tuning has already come up with an upgrade package, called the ‘Dark Edition’.
The kit comes with a number of exterior enhancements to boost the Golf’s visual appeal, including darkened headlights and taillights and some dark side mirror caps to match.
There’s also a new front bumper bar with its own spoiler setup, a new rear bumper bar with an aggressive diffuser section and quad-outlet exhausts poking out from underneath, and some neat side skirts to match with red detailing.
Under the bonnet ABT has maximised the engine’s performance to much more serious levels. The factory version is already the most powerful GTI ever, with the turbo 2.0-litre producing up to 169kW. After ABT is finished with it power is taken up to 221kW.
Out on the tarmac the tune results in 0-100km/h in just 5.8 seconds, which is over half a second quicker than the standard GTI. With the added power, cross country performance and track performance is likely to be significantly improved.
The complete package has just made its debut at the 2013 Essen Motor Show in Germany. ABT also has a couple of other cars on display at the show, including a Polo R WRC edition with 213kW, and an Audi RS 5 with 345kW.
