Toyota has release a couple of images of the new Toyota FT-86 II Concept it will unveil at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in the next few hours. Although visually, all we can tell from the new concept is a fresh coast of paint, Toyota says it is a faster, lighter and sportier version of the concept.
Like many, we simply can’t wait for the Toyota FT-86 to hit the showrooms. It’s promising to be a very worthy icon capable of carrying on the Toyota Sprinter AE86 heritage, using a compact, front-engined, rear-wheel drive layout.
Toyota hasn’t revealed much in terms of specifications, only saying that it features a direct-injection four-cylinder boxer engine, sending power to the rear wheels. Toyota also says it will come with a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
From these images, the Toyota FT-86 II Concept appears to be in pretty much the same guise as the concept exhibited at the 2011 Australian International Motor Show earlier this year. Finer detailing tweaks are expected to be revealed later on during the Frankfurt show’s opening day, later today.
The production version of the Toyota FT-86 is set to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show 2011 from November 30 this year. It is expected to go on sale in Australia in the second half of 2012, possibly badged as a ‘Toyota 86’ after it was revealed the name was registered by Toyota as a trademark in Australia in mid-2010.

UPDATE: The new Toyota FT-86 II Concept on show features a Brembo performance brake package, hinting the production FT-86 may receive, at least as an option, this kind of performance setup.
