BMW has taken to the recent Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como in Italy to unveil a new one-off concept called the Touring Coupe.
Designed as a two-seater grand tourer, the Concept Touring Coupe is a compact shooting brake that looks like a three-quarter version of the Ferrari FF or more recent GTC4Lusso.
The company says the design is loosely based on the Mille Miglia-winning 328 Touring Coupe of the 1940s, with its shooting brake/wagon styling inspired by the BMW 02 Series from the 1970s.
Under the bonnet, there’s an inline six-cylinder engine, with the Touring Coupe riding on a set of 20-inch front and 21-inch rear alloy wheels. Engine specs haven’t been outlined.
Inside, it’s a familiar affair to modern BMW creations, though there’s more hand-crafted leather upholstery than your typical Beemer, with a special luggage set that squeezes in behind the front row straight from the Schedoni workshop in Modena.
For now, the Concept Touring Coupe remains a mere one-off to impress onlookers, though we can only hope its public reception will be convincing enough for BMW to put it into production. BMW’s design chief, Domagoj Dukec, said:
“The BMW Concept Touring Coupe celebrates original sheer driving pleasure. A highly emotional vehicle like this shows that the passion for everything that goes into driving pleasure has bene essential through the ages and will be for the future.”
