Previewed in August, this is the stunning new Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake. Yep, it’s a long name but it probably deserves one, as it should never be confused with anything else. What a stunner.
The Shooting Brake is based on the similarly-gorgeous Vanquish Zagato coupe, only it features a mouth-watering rear end with a swooping roofline that meets the rear haunches in beautiful symphony. Check out the way the designers have elegantly placed the rear windscreen in between the haunches and taillights.
At the heart is the same 5.9-litre naturally aspirated V12 as the regular Vanquish Zagato, belting out a 440kW serenade for the world to hear. In the coupe this engine propels the beautiful beast from 0-100km/h in just 3.5 seconds, with the convertible doing it in 3.7 seconds. We can expect the wagon to do it somewhere in between.
Being a Zagato means you get the trademark double-bubble roof, although it is a unique interpretation of that on the Shooting Brake. To allow for a glass roof, in keeping with the grand touring nature of the wagon, the designers have crafted a unique carbon fibre set of wings that meet at the rear and spread forward. It’s exquisite.
Perhaps the best part about the machine is that it’s not a concept. It will go into production. Aston Martin is planning to build just 99 examples, but 99 is 99 nonetheless. Details on what markets these will be available in are yet to be confirmed.
