The adventurous little Volkswagen Golf Alltrack has landed in Australia, bringing 4MOTION technology to a jumped-up version of the Golf wagon.
It comes in a single trim line and powertrain package, consisting of a 1.8-litre TSI turbo-petrol four-cylinder. The engine produces 132kW of power and 280Nm of torque, sending force through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic and into a Haldex-based all-wheel drive system.
Using this setup, the Golf Alltrack is able to offer an average fuel consumption of 6.7L/100km, and acceleration from 0-100km/h in a reasonably brisk 7.8 seconds. The engine runs on a minimum of 95 RON premium petrol.
Drivers can select between three driving modes; with Eco focusing on ensuring optimum efficiency; Sport providing a more responsive and energetic character; and an Off-road mode for slippery conditions.
Helping the Golf in off-road conditions is a raised ride height of 175mm. This is supported by 17-inch alloy wheels wearing all-terrain-suitable 205/55 tyres. As a bonus for camping enthusiasts and adventurous types, the Alltrack comes with chrome roof rails as standard.
Other standard features include a 6.5-inch touch-screen interface for the cabin incorporating various apps and connectivity systems such as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also offers USB, SD card, and AUX-in compatibility.
Safety is high on the agenda for the Alltrack, coming equipped with fatigue detection as standard, a reversing camera, parking sensors, seven airbags, and an electronic locking differential for maximum traction.
Being based on the Golf wagon, the cabin space is plentiful, with the rear opening up to provide 605 litres of cargo capacity. This can be expanded to present 1620 litres, and 1831mm of floor length, with the rear seats folded down.
The unique model is on sale in Australia now, starting from $37,990 (excluding on-road costs). A Sports Luxury package is optional for $2500, while a Driver Assistance package is an extra $1300.
