Chevrolet has released a preview image of the upcoming 2015 Corvette Z06. This is the first time some official light has been shed on the new performance model.
Based on the new Corvette Stingray, the Z06 will be the most track-capable Corvette ever, according to the manufacturer. It will showcase “supercar levels of performance” thanks to a bespoke chassis, powertrain and body.
The new model will complete Chev’s full suite of performance cars, which includes the new Stingray, the Camaro Z/28 and the Commodore-based SS sedan. Alan Batey, senior vice president at Global Chevrolet, said in a recent statement,
“Chevrolet is America’s favorite performance car brand, and for 2014 we are going to offer enthusiasts more choices than ever before. No other manufacturer will be able to match the breath of performance cars from Chevrolet.”
Judging by the teaser image the new Z06 will come with unique dark-coloured alloy wheels, side skirts and aggressive side intakes just in front of the rear wheels.
As for the specifics, details are yet to be released. It’s believed it will come with a 7.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 producing round 447kW, almost trumping the current ZR1 supercharged Corvette which offers 476kW.
All of the details will be revealed at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. Stay tuned.
