Following in the footsteps of the CLS Shooting Brake, Mercedes-Benz will launch a sleek wagon version of the new CLA-Class in the next couple of years called the CLA Shooting Brake.
Featuring a smooth, swept-over exterior design, like the CLS Shooting Brake, the CLA Shooting Brake is being designed to appeal to younger generation buyers. It’s set to offer more headroom and of course more cargo space than the just-launched CLA four-door coupe.
The new model will be the fifth to be built on Mercedes-Benz’s latest MFA front-wheel drive platform. Engine options are likely to mimic those found in the sedan, with a potential 4MATIC all-wheel drive system becoming an option in some markets.
Likely engine choices include the ‘CLA 250’ 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder with 155kW, the ‘CLA 220 CDI’ 2.1-litre turbo-diesel with 125kW, and the 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder found in the CLA 45 AMG. The mighty AMG version offers 265kW and 450Nm.
There is a chance the wagon rear may add some weight to the CLA, which could mean the AMG version might be a touch slower in terms of acceleration – the CLA 45 AMG four-door is capable of 4.6 seconds. Even still, it’s going to be a very cool wagon.
