Here at PerformanceDrive we are big kids at heart. We love video games like GTA V and Forza: Horizon 3 as much as playing with LEGO creations such as the Ferrari F40 and amazing British Racing Green Mini Cooper we’ve featured.
There’s just something fun about putting together a 3D puzzle in real life, with LEGO’s trademark quirky blockiness. To our eyes, iconic and blocky cars suit the LEGO treatment the best, such as this Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk 1 from the 1970s.
This bespoke model featured on the Lego Ideas page, where proposals for new LEGO kits are shared, is a faithfully recreated GTI with eye-watering attention to detail. The stickers, decals, engine bay and interior are all magnificently close to the original car and the grey colour would make this a standout for any mantelpiece.
The silhouette itself is somewhat crude but the creator did the best he could considering there is no official kit, utilising all the different LEGO pieces he could to emulate the Golf.
This is undoubtedly the most recognisable and iconic VW Golf there is and there is also a photo of it next to a blue VW Beetle with a surfboard on top. If LEGO brought out this as an official kit, would your inner child be jumping for joy at the thought of assembling it for hours? Or do you have better things to do? Let us know in the comments below.
