Subaru’s performance arm, Subaru Technica International (STI), has unveiled a special edition BRZ variant in Japan called the BRZ tS STI.
To answer your first question; Sadly, no, there’s been no tinkering under the bonnet, so output remains at 147kW/205Nm from its naturally aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. And to add insult to injury, the BRZ tS is a special edition for the Japanese market only.
However, STI has been busy working away at improving the underpinnings of the BRZ, tuning the front suspension system as well as installing a new rear damper, wider drive shaft and flexible front draw stiffener. In other words, this BRZ is set to handle like no other.
STI has also updated the software for the vehicle dynamics stability control, installed new Brembo ventilated brakes, and a new set of front and rear bumper bars and black 18-inch alloys wrapped in 225/40 ZR18 Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber.
Inside, there are the usual cosmetic tweaks including a new leather-wrapped gear lever, steering wheel, with an Alcantara speedometer visor and Recaro bucket seats.
STI has limited production of the BRZ tS to just 300 units, orders for which are available from now until October 12. Buyers will have the choice of Crystal White, WR Blue, Crystal Black and Sunrise Yellow (maximum 100 units).
The manual version of the BRZ tS including Japanese taxes is available from 3,990,000 yen (just over AU$42,000), and the automatic variant from 4,071,000 yen.
