An image of the new Fiat 500X crossover has been leaked online ahead of its Paris Motor Show debut next month, revealing the finished exterior for the very first time.
The Fiat 500X is based on the 500L five-door, showcasing a mildly jumped up body to make it suitable for light off-road use. It will be the fourth body style for the 500, following the three-door hatch and roadster, and the 500L five-door.
Under the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles empire, the 500X will ride on a similar platform as the one used for the Jeep Renegade small SUV. Power is set to come from a choice of MultiAir and MultiJet turbo engines.
Behind the engine is expected to sit a six-speed manual or a new nine-speed automatic, with both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive options available for some variants.
It’s no secret the SUV market is booming at the moment, and more and more consumers are wanting smaller and more economical options. That’s where the 500X will fit it. Although sales of the 500L are quite slow, the 500X is expected to bring a sense of adventure to the showroom and potentially help lift sales for the petite Italian car.
As revealed in the image, the 500X will come with a raised up body with the must-have plastic cladding around the lower skirts and around the wheel arches. There’s also some unique alloy wheels to give it further distinction.
Full details and more images will be revealed at the Paris show, starting October 2.
I actually like it, maybe a bit stretched but the face is really nice.
