Some preliminary details and some early design sketches of the 2015 Volkswagen Passat have been released, giving us some insight before its debut later this year.
The design is an advanced step from the current clean yet conservative styling language. At the front you’ll notice the multi-tier grille blends in with the headlights, with the horizontal lines accentuating a wide stance.
Around the wheels are a set of quite muscly arches that protrude outwards, and at the back the taillights are wider and the C-pillars are sloped to almost coupe-like angles. These sketches are quite early in the car’s development stage and the production model is likely to be watered down somewhat, but even still, it looks rather attractive.
In the engine compartment will be some significant changes, including the introduction of a twin-turbo diesel 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, producing around 176kW of power and an impressive 500Nm of torque
A plug-in hybrid is also expected to join the range, comprising of a 1.4-litre TSI petrol. Combined, the two units are set to provide around 150kW of power, along with exception fuel economy.
Details of the interior and technology are still under wraps, however, there’s speak of a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument display coming on board, as well as a large infotainment unit in the dash with full connectivity.
The new model will debut later in the year with a market entry likely taking place some time early in next year.
