Just ahead of its full reveal, Renault has shown the interior of the smart new 2019 Renault Clio. It showcases more digital tech than ever before.
Called the ’Smart Cockpit’, the interior presents a range of fully digital displays and functions. Chief among which is the new 9.3-inch vertical touch-screen media interface. This is the largest screen ever fitted in a standard Renault.
For the driver the instrument cluster is made up of a new TFT display, measuring either 7.0 inches or 10 inches, depending on the variant grade. With the larger 10-inch unit the driver can configure the layout to include sat-nav information right there within the cluster.
Aside from the clever tech, Renault says particular attention was concentrated on lifting the quality of the Clio’s interior. The dash is now split into three parts, with top panel featuring a foamed coating, with a customisable central panel, and the lower section presenting the glove box.
There’s also deeper hugging seats, and a brand new steering wheel which has been designed to look more elegant and more compact. It offers thumb rests and a broader hoop, and comes fitted with back-lit controls and satin chrome trimmings for that quality look and feel. Speaking about the new model, Laurens van den Acker, senior vice president of corporate design at Renault, said:
“The fifth generation Clio is very important for us as it is the best-seller in its segment and the second best-selling car in Europe, all categories combined. The Clio is an icon, and the latest features the very best of the previous generations. The exterior design of Clio IV won over our customers and continues to do so today, so we chose to keep that DNA while bringing modernity and elegance to the new model.”
The 2019 Renault Clio will be part of Renault’s ‘Drive the Future’ strategy, which includes an aim for Renault to offer 12 electrified models in its range by 2022. As such, the new Clio will be offered with new E-Tech hybrid technology.
All will be revealed very soon. Stay tuned.
