Dodge has revealed the 2019 Dodge Challenger and Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. The new Hellcat Redeye boasts some engine tweaks that lift power to a mega 797hp.
Yes, that’s right. The new 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye features a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 that kicks out an amazing 797hp (595kW) and 959Nm. This helps the muscle car accelerate from 0-60mph in just 3.4 seconds, with the quarter mile coming up in just 10.8 seconds at 131mph (211km/h). The top speed is 327km/h.
The Hellcat engine receives some major revisions to help lift power, including a larger supercharger, stronger conrods and pistons, tweaked fuel injection, and a higher-speed valvetrain setup. There’s also some changes made to the lubrication system.
Dodge is serious about the new Hellcat Redeye’s drag strip performance, and will be launching the new model with two different final drive ratios: 2.62:1 for those that want better highway cruising ability, or 3.09:1 for those interested mainly in drag racing.
The FCA brand will continue to offer the regular Hellcat, but even that has received some tweaks for 2019, with power lifted from 707hp to 717hp (535kW). Like the Redeye, the new Hellcat features a fresh dual-snorkel bonnet that’s inspired by the brand’s iconic muscle cars from the 1970s.
A Line Lock feature that holds the front wheels for a tension-free burnout has been added to all Hellcat and R/T Scat Pack models, with Launch Assist fitted as standard as well to help get the beast off the line. Dodge says the Launch Assist feature helps to reduce wheel hop by reducing load in the driveline by up to 20 per cent.
Other highlights include new 20-inch ‘Brass Monkey’ forged aluminium wheels, and a new R/T Scat Pack Widebody kit that extends the wheel arches by 3.5 inches. The Scat Pack rides on 20×11 ‘Devil’s Rim’ forged wheels with 305/35ZR Pirelli tyres.
As for the regular Challenger models, there’s some new wheel options for the SXT, GT, and R/T, ranging from 19 to 20 inches, while the interior is offered in a new Caramel Nappa leather option available for the SXT. The range spans from SX, SXT, SXT AWD, GT, GT AWD, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, SRT Hellcat, and the new SRT Hellcat Redeye.
