BMW Australia has confirmed the pricing of the crucial new G30 5 Series, which arrives in local showrooms in March, 2017.
The range opens with the 2.0-litre diesel-powered 520d at $93,900, which represents a $9145 increase over the outgoing model. It is significantly lighter, faster, more economical and better equipped to justify that increase, with 0-100km/h in 7.5 seconds and a fuel consumption average of just 4.3L/100km.
The 185kW/350Nm turbo-petrol 530i starts from $108,900, where as the current 528i nudges under the $100k barrier. Again, major improvements in all the aforementioned metrics go a long way to explaining this, with 5.8L/100km, 0-100km/h in 6.2 seconds, and a CO2 rating of 132g/km.
The cheapest six-cylinder will be the turbo-diesel 530d priced from $119,900. It comes with a silky 195kW/620Nm 3.0-litre straight six oil burner that returns 4.7L/100km. With 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds, it is almost as quick as the outgoing 535d which costs more than this new variant.
Finally, the top of the tree (for now) is the 540i that utilises a 3.0-litre turbo-petrol straight six of 250kW and 450Nm caliber. This results in a 5.1-second 0-100km/h sprint time while still returning an impressive 6.7L/100km. The 540i will start from $136,900.
Highlights include optional M Sport packages and Luxury Line options across the range plus the new lightweight chassis that saves up to 100kg in some versions.
BMW’s new Driving Assistant Plus system offers first-in-class autonomous features including cross-traffic and crossroad warning, surround view, panorama view and remote parking assistance. The all-new iDrive system also brings the infotainment system into a new realm of connectivity.
