Land Rover has released another teaser of the anticipated, all-new, fifth-generation Discovery, showing off some of its abilities during development.
The new Discovery, as we saw last week, will wear the company’s latest design language. It steps away from the boxy design to represent a much more rounded layout seen on the latest Range Rover models.
You can make out some of the design in the prototypes seen in the video below, and they show it will retain the tall rear end synonymous with the nameplate. However, thanks to an aluminium-intensive platform borrowed from Range Rover the new model is likely to drop a few hundred kilos in weight.
Reduced weight will help to improve economy and performance, and handling and agility. Also helping in some of these areas will be a refreshed powertrain lineup. Land Rover has confirmed a new 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol unit is on the way, along with a dual-clutch gearbox (company first). A new twin-turbo diesel 2.0-litre four-cylinder is also expected.
As for technology, the new Discovery is set to boast of range of gizmos and practical-focused gadgets, along with clever seating layouts for up to seven passengers and loads of connectivity options including speak of up to nine USB ports. Expect an advanced off-road drive mode selector too, potentially helping the new model to be more capable off road than the outgoing model.
Land Rover will unveil the SUV in full at the Paris motor show starting later this month. It’s set to go on sale during the first half of 2017. Click play below for a preview.
