Volkswagen Australia has announced final prices for the 2017 Mk7.5 Golf, including the performance GTI and Golf R hot hatches.
As previously reported, Australia is getting four main engine options, including 110TSI, 110TDI, 132TSI, and 135TDI, along with the 2.0TSI units powering the Golf GTI and Golf R. Both hatch and wagon are being offered for the regular variants, while the Alltrack is back to supply for the growing crossover/SUV trends.
The local arm has also confirmed there will be 300 examples of the Golf R Wolfsburg Edition in hatch and wagon being made available, while the Golf R wagon will return as a permanent part of the lineup next year.
Kicking off the range, the regular Golf is priced from $23,990, which is about $1150 more expensive than the outgoing entry-level model. However, Volkswagen presses that the new model comes equipped with more features and technology. In fact, it says the new entry model is similar in specification to the outgoing Comfortline, which starts from $28,340 in outgoing form.
Moving up to the Alltrack, which is available with either the 132TSI or 135TDI exclusively, it kicks off from $34,490. For the first time it’s being offered with a diesel, which starts from $40,990. Despite coming extensively equipped, the new Alltrack starts from $34,490, which is $3850 cheaper than the outgoing 132TSI.
As for the sporty GTI, the six-speed manual option starts from $41,490 and from $43,990 for the six-speed DSG auto. The starting price is up only $150 over the outgoing manual GTI. When you consider the fact the new GTI comes with the 169kW engine tune previously reserved for the more expensive GTI Performance edition, the car remains as a hot hatch bargain.
The new model will officially arrive in Australia in July, with the Golf GTI and Golf R coming in during August. See below for the starting prices (excluding on-road costs), and further below for the highlight standard features.
