Volkswagen Australia has announced specifications for the updated 2015 Polo GTI, which boasts fresh styling, a newly-developed 1.8-litre TSI engine, and an array of convenience and assistance systems.
The newly-developed 1.8-litre TSI turbo engine produces an output of 141kW and 320Nm (DSG models limited to 250Nm), and can come equipped with a six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed DSG transmission. Performance-wise, the turbo TSI engine sees the Polo GTI shoot from 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds.
Volkswagen says the exterior design has been updated to “enhance the sporting credentials and aggressive stance of the vehicle”. The the fresh look consists of a newly designed front bumper and fog light design, the iconic red grille which continues into the headlight housing, a rear spoiler and diffuser, as well as unique GTI badging and side sills. Sitting under the performance hatch is a set of 17-inch Parabolica alloy wheels and red brake callipers.
Step inside the updated Polo GTI and you’re greeted with a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel with gear shift paddles (DSG only), aluminium finish pedals, automatic climate control, the latest generation 6.5-inch Composition Media touchscreen audio system, and bolstered ‘Clark’ tartan cloth trim sports seats.
Safety features include multi-collision braking, ABS, EBD and Brake Assist. Volkswagen’s XDL electronic differential lock is also standard to improve traction and add to the car’s handling capabilities.
Volkswagen offers buyers the choice to add a Luxury Package, and a Driver Assistance Package. The Luxury pack adds LED headlights and daytime driving lights, comfort sports seats with Alcantara/leather-look upholstery and a panoramic electric glass sunroof. The Driver Assistance pack adds a Discover Media audio and satellite navigation system, a rear-view camera, front and rear parking distance sensors and the Driver Fatigue Detection system.
Other standout features include, remote opening and closing of the windows using the key fob, one-touch opening and closing of the windows, internal headlight range adjustment, a chillable glovebox, and heated exterior mirrors.
Prices for the 2015 Volkswagen Polo GTI start from $27,490, with DSG automatic adding $2500.
