An image of the sleek new 2013 Volvo V40 R-Design has been leaked in a Spanish catalogue. This is the performance/sporty variant of the new V40, which is set to go on sale during late-2012/early-2013.

Like the current crop of R-Design vehicles from Volvo, the sports package brings a discreet range of enhancements. These include a neat bodykit with darkened highlights, dark alloy wheels, silver side mirrors, and a suave new interior trim.

Mechanically, the R-Design is typically based on the most powerful variant in the range, so the performance potential of the V40 version is expected to be at its peak. The R-Design usually also comes with sports suspension with revised springs and dampers.

The most powerful version of the new V40, the 2013 Volvo V40 T5, is set to come with a 2.5-litre turbocharged five-cylinder engine producing around 187kW of power and 370Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0-100km/h is expected to be in the low seven seconds range.

An official unveiling will take place later this year, possibly at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September. We’ll keep you updated in any case.
