The TRD Toyota 86 Griffon concept has been unveiled at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan. As previously previewed, the modified 86 has been setup for cracking time attacks out on the track.
Helping the 86 to improve its track times drastically is a set of carbon fibre panels, including the doors, boot lid, bonnet, and front and rear bumper bars. Additional weight reduction measures include polycarbonate windows for the doors and rear windscreen.
Not only are the bumpers carbon fibre, they also feature various wings and scoops for added downforce. Overall, the carbon parts reduce weight by as much as 227kg, leaving the 86 Griffon concept with a kerb weight of just 1034kg.
As for the engine, no significant modifications have been made aside from a barking free-flow exhaust system. The 2.0-litre naturally aspirated Subaru boxer engine in its standard form produces 147kW and 205Nm.
Around Tsukuba Circuit in Japan, the package has lapped a 1:01.872, making it around four seconds quicker than an all-wheel drive Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X which has 217kW. Click play below to see how she goes, and sounds.
