Ford has just released details of the new 2012 Ford Falcon FG MkII range which will come with the option of the world’s first rear-drive EcoBoost engine. Ford has also released details and revisions made to the FG MkII Ford Falcon XR6 and XR6 Turbo, and the new Ford Falcon G6, G6E and G6E Turbo.
The new Ford Falcon FG MkII is a very big deal for the Australian car industry, as it will mark a cornerstone step in Falcon’s history by introducing the world’s first rear-wheel drive application of Ford’s new EcoBoost engine.
Ford Australia hasn’t released specific details on the new, optional EcoBoost unit, only saying that it will be the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder item. Ford Australia says full details will be announced closer to the new Falcon’s launch later this year. (The EcoBoost unit will not be available on XR or G6E and G6E Turbo models, and will be introduced in early 2012.)
The 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine offers, in various forms around the world, 177kW of power and 339Nm of torque. It uses a Borg Warner K03 low inertia turbocharger as well as direct-injection, both of which will contribute to the new Ford Falcon passing Euro V emissions standards. Fuel consumption on Ecoboost models is also expected to be considerably lower than the existing six-cylinder FG Falcon range.
Ford Australia President and CEO Bob Graziano said in a recent statement,
“EcoBoost technology gives us everything customers have told us they want: a combination of the performance they expect and the fuel economy improvements they demand that, until now, has only been achievable with the latest-generation turbo diesel powertrains.”
As for the visual changes, the sports models, including the Ford Falcon FG MkII XR6 and XR6 Turbo, will get a slightly revised front fascia with new winglets around the spotlight housings and projector headlights. The front grilles will also be presented in a recessed black mesh fashion.
The Ford Falcon FG MkII XR6 will get 18-inch Y-spoke alloy wheels – currently fitted to the XR6 Turbo – while the new Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo FG MkII will get new 19-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels. Other distinguishing elements between the XR6 and XR6 Turbo include silver highlighted spotlight surrounds on the Turbo model.
In the sports luxury end of the spectrum, the new Ford Falcon FG MkII G6, G6E and G6E Turbo will all get revised front ends as well, with new projector headlights with LEDs, as well as new grilles and spotlight housings.
Other new features for the Ford Falcon FG MkII range includes a revised interior with improved sound deadening installed throughout, helping to provide a more luxurious and calm interior mood. The new Falcon also gets an eight-inch LCD Interior Command Centre (ICC) touch screen display on the dash on all models except the entry-level XT.
As for safety, the new Ford Falcon FG MkII range will come with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Traction Control (TCS), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS).

Production for the new 2012 Ford Falcon FG MkII will begin in the final quarter of this year, with market entry set to take place towards the end of this year for the non-EcoBoost models and during the start of 2012 for the EcoBoost variants.

Ford should retool the St.Thomas factory in St.Thomas,Ontario Canada that made the discontinued rear drive 2011 Crown Victoria/Town Car to make a left hand drive version of the Australian built Falcon and call it the 2012 Model Crown Victoria and make a luxury version of it as a 2012 Town Car.It should have the same optional engines as the Falcon-the soon to come Ecoboost I4(which according to a blog I read somewhere actually has better acceleration than the current I6),the current I6 or retrofitted with the Mustang Duratech v6,LPG powered I6,and the Coyote v8 including the 449hp 420lbft Miami version.
The front grill is ugly. Hate to say so but it looks crap. Might work in USA but definitely ugly down here. Fix it before yo have a problem. The lights and bonnet are ok like before but what a stupid outline around the bottom grill, what is that? American left overs?
The rest of the car looks great, even in current design very nice car very under rated and I would hate a repeat of the AU grill fiasco.

Ihave a G6E great car but I have to agree with Chris about the front. It needs more work. I think the all black treatment (on the front) is better than the chrome version/s. Make that standard across the new range. Its classier and will help sales as well.
Ford should advertize the weight distribution of the Falcon in with the details about the dimentions about the size and weight.I dont know what the weight distribution of the 449 hp 420 lbft V8 version is or what the ecoboost I4 will be.But I do have numbers for the XR6 gasoline and LPG version.
The Falcon XR6 weight distribution front/rear is 54.5/45.5% gasoline version and improves to 52.5/47.5 in the LPG version.That is why the LPG version is better in slippery conditions.That would also make the LPG Falcon great in North America as a 2012 Crown Victoria/Town Car( since those cars are discontinued ) and in Europe as a ressurected Scorpio.Taxi drivers in North America who drove the Crown Victorias would love to have rear drive that would be better in snowy conditions (than the discontinued Crown Victoria)and much cheaper on fuel too without compromising performance.I got those weight distribution numbers from two articles.The first article was about people adding weight to an ecoboost I4 powered Mondeo to get an estimate on what the fuel economy of the soon to come ecoboost Falcon would be.The article stated the front and rear weight of both cars was,so I calculated the weight distribution of the Falcon XR6.The other article stated that the LPG version adds 70kg 144lbs on the back wheels.

I reckon its a great looking car. It is ment to relate to the new titanium series of the Territory and Focus. Its a much bolder looking car than the now XR6, which I own. I just can’t wait to see the FPV version. Its a falcon that a welcome due to the oncoming desision that ford USA will make wheather to continue making the falcon.

I love fords…but eco boost engines have a flaw..the water pump is located in the middle of the block..if the pump fails then youll be mixing coolant and oil in the pan..you must flush it out every year..more maintenance costs…and if the xr6 turbo models weigh close too 2 ton im gonna be severely pissed….PLZ LORD!!!
Will Ford also reduce the prices on the FG GT MKII?

I own a Nissan Teana. My car is a dark metallic color one. I am doing something wrong with car body. Day by day, It gets lots of swirl marks, hairline scratches. I tried microfiber. But still the scratches wont go.

you still have to understand that a typical five speed FG XT 2008-2010 is a bang for the buck car. 4.0L I6 195kW @ 6000rpm / 391Nm @3250rpm , 198kW @ 6000rpm / 409Nm @ 3250rpm when using RON95 petrol or 208kW @ 5600rpm / 420Nm @2500-3500rpm when running RON98 V-Power or Vortex 98.
the four cylinder has no change, an ex taxi 5 speed with 490,000km+ beats a 5,000km 4 cylinder ecoboost down the drag strip as tested in NSW Oct 2012.
