The compact Aston Martin Vantage’s second reprisal has been detailed via purported patent images obtained from Japan’s patent office.
These pictures, as published initially by Autoguide, reveal the contours, light and window shape for the upcoming sports car, expected to utilise the same architecture as the DB11.
Compared with that car, it has a shorter wheelbase, as the current model did relative to the DB9 – both based on the outgoing VH platform. Also notable is a large guard vent at the side, and slimline LED rear lights that appear to run across the bootlid. The front visage appears to be a combination of the DB11 and the more minimalist DB10 featured in the 007 film Spectre in 2014.
The primary powerplant for the Vantage is expected to be the 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 sourced from Mercedes-AMG, which in the recently announced DB11 makes 375kW and 675Nm. Aston Martin has confirmed previously the Vantage will continue to be offered with a manual transmission alongside an eight-speed automatic. What is unclear is whether, like today, that will entail a six- or dog-leg seven-speed option.
Expect curb weight to sit somewhere below the 1760kg of a similarly engined DB11, and, thanks to the Daimler-sourced electronic architecture, some advanced semi-autonomous features.
