For some of us, the fascination with supercars began with a trip to the supermarket, witnessing an array of Matchbox or Hot Wheels cars stacked on the shelf, followed by pleading your parent to buy one.
That same spectacle (without the parent) has been taken to a life-size scale in the world’s first supercar vending machine building.
Autobahn Motors in Singapore combines the latest automated parking technology, where robotics can retrieve and efficiently stow cars in high-density areas, with cutting edge architecture (carchitecture?).
Inside the high-rise structure are an array of luxury, classic and sports cars, including Mercedes-Benzes, BMWs, Porsches, Ferraris of various vintage, Lamborghinis, Bentleys and McLarens.
There are 15 levels, and four columns, with vehicle retrieval taken care of via the Automotive Inventory Management System – which is proprietary of Autobahn Motors and has attracted interest for use in car parks.
The transaction and choice of luxury car is managed by a touch-screen at ground level, which then initiates AIMS to fetch the car of choice. General manager Gary Hong told Reuters:
“We needed to meet our requirement of storing a lot of cars. At the same time, we wanted to be creative and innovative.”
