2020 Mitsubishi Triton updates announced for Australia

Some updates have been announced for one of Australia’s most popular utes. Introducing the 2020 Mitsubishi Triton. Headlining the update is a boost in off-road capability for the mid-range models.

Mitsubishi Australia says it has focused on increasing the capability of the mid-spec models for 2020, namely the GLX+ and the GLS. For these, a rear diff lock system is now available. It was previously reserved for the GLS Premium only.

The diff lock, available for 4×4 models, prevents one rear wheel from spinning away the power. When engaged it essentially locks to two rear wheels to the same speed, very effectively increasing off-road performance. In the GLX+ it can be engaged in both 4H and 4L modes.

Speaking of driving modes, the GLX+ uses the Easy Select 4WD system. It offers the driver RWD and 4WD selection on the go (at up to 100km/h). There’s also a transfer case with low range for really tricky conditions.

Moving up to the GLS and GLS Premium gets you the Super Select II 4WD setup. It adds in 4HLc (centre lock) and 4LLc (centre lock in low range). On top of these, users can toggle between special driving modes, spanning from Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand, and Rock.

Other changes for the 2020 model include a new rear air vent for the GLX+ dual-cab for increased comfort, while the GLS gains keyless entry and push-button start. Speaking about the changes, Derek McIlroy, Mitsubishi deputy director for marketing and operation, said:

“We’re making changes to our functionality to be able to deliver Australian customers what they’re looking for. Australia is a key market for Triton development, and we’re consistently listening to ute buyers and looking for new ways to add the features they want to our lineup.”

The new model is on sale now with prices starting from the following (excludes on-road costs):
