Mercedes-Benz and AMG are working on a Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG coupe which will take on the likes of the Porsche 911. The new model will be like a junior version of the SLS AMG gullwing.
Similar to the SLS AMG, the SLC is set to be an AMG standalone model, showcasing a clear focus on performance and sportiness. Up until now the model was still only being considered, but according to Auto Express in the UK, production has been confirmed.
Specific details on the car remain a bit of a mystery at this early stage. Reports speculate a few engine possibilities, including a new 4.0-litre V8, to a more fuel-efficient V6. Regardless of the engine, the SLC is set to adopt a front mid-engine layout feeding power to either a rear-wheel or all-wheel drive system.
Unlike the SLS AMG, the SLC won’t feature the dramatic up-swinging gullwing doors. It’s understood AMG will be aiming to keep unnecessary costs to a minimum to help the SLC sit in the market with a very competitive price (around the $180,000-$200,000 mark).
The new model is expected to hit the showrooms in 2014. Stay tuned for more updates.
