More details are coming through on the new Ferrari Enzo ‘F70’ successor, which is set to arrive next year. The new model will be the most powerful road-going Ferrari ever made.
Unlike any other Ferrari to ever hit the market, the new Enzo, or F70 as it’s being nicknamed in the industry, will be powered by a sophisticated HY-KERS (hybrid kinetic energy recovery system) V12 mid-mounted power unit.
The petrol engine will be a tweaked version of the engine used in the current most-powerful Ferrari, the Ferrari F12. In the F70, Autocar in the UK reports the 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 will produce 559kW.
On top of this, an electric motor is set to add a further 74kW and 200Nm. With a total of 633kW on tap, the new model will be capable of sprinting from 0-200km/h 10 per cent quicker than what the Enzo achieves, according to Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa.
Part of the reason the new model – which is also being codenamed the ‘F150’ – will be quicker is also thanks to a lighter weight platform. The chassis will be a monocoque frame made entirely of carbon fibre, weighing in at around 70kg, or down 20 per cent compared to the one used on the Enzo. The carbon frame will likely incorporate a set of up-swinging doors, like the Enzo.
Inside, the seats are set to be fixed and moulded to each buyer, providing a full racing-car-like cockpit. The seat is also set to be mounted slightly lower than the pedal box, again, like a racing car.
Facing the driver will be an advanced F1-style steering wheel filled with loads of different controls and settings. This will apparently help to save up to 90kg from the car’s overall weight.
As for styling, the new Ferrari Enzo ‘F150’, or F70, will showcase a very low and long layout with a short rear overhang. Certain finer details, such as the headlights, are expected to mimic designs found on other current model Ferraris, in tune with the company’s latest design language.
Whether or not the new Enzo will be the fastest car in the world is unclear. However, it is expected to be one of the, if not the quickest road-legal track car money can buy.
