The new DS 5 has launched in Australia showing off fresh exterior styling that hints to the original 1955 DS, while there’s also a revised interior, upgraded on-board technology, and a new diesel engine compared with the Citroen-badged predecessor.

DS 5

The DS 5 is the first of a six-model lineup to be launched from PSA and the new DS brand, since becoming a standalone nameplate outside of the Citroen brand.

Exterior-wise, the new-look DS 5 features a sculpted vertical grille with the DS monogram in the centre, and new DS LED Vision headlamps, all of which identify styling of the original DS from 1955.

Inside, buyers will find revised interior styling that features a new touch-drive interface with a seven-inch touchscreen monitor and a ‘cockpit’ style driving setting. The suspension on the new model has also been revised for “greater comfort and composure”.

Under the bonnet sits PSA’s latest BlueHDi Euro 6 133kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, which is backed up by a six-speed automatic transmission. DS claims a 0-100km/h time of 9.2 seconds for the DS 5 D Sport.

Prices for the DS 5 D Sport will start from $56,990 (plus on-road costs), and will come with features such as LED vision headlights and fog lights, blind-spot monitoring, 18-inch twist alloy wheels, as well as digtal DAB+ radio.

DS has also announced a limited-run 60th anniversary edition that will feature Watchstrap leather trim, Denon audio system, DS metal trim, DS roof sticker, DS mirror caps, premium paint, and 19-inch Cairns alloy wheels. Prices for the limited model will start from $59,990 (excluding on-roads).

DS says its vehicles will bring together “avant-garde design, allying dynamic behaviour, refinement and attention to detail, paired with innovative technologies”. Speaking about the DS 5, Yves Bonnefont, CEO of DS, said,

“The New DS 5 is more than just a new car. It is the car introducing our brand identity. Sixty years on from the original DS, the new DS 5 carries all the genes of DS. Above all, it is a clear statement of our ambition: to revive the tradition of French premium vehicles.”

All DS models come with a six-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, as well as six years capped-price servicing and six years roadside assist.
