Jeep Australia has introduced the all-new Jeep Cherokee. It showcases new technologies, improved efficiency, and over 65 safety and security features, as well as a fresh design inside and out.
The new Jeep Cherokee boasts a number of industry firsts, including the first mid-size SUV with three four-wheel drive systems, as well as a rear axle disconnect system to improve efficiency.
Four different variants are available in Australia, including the Sport, Longitude, Limited, and the Trailhawk. The last three come with a 3.2-litre Pentastar V6 engine producing 200kW and 316Nm, while the entry-level rear-wheel drive 2.4 ‘TigerShark’ produces 130kW and 229Nm. All come with an industry-first nine-speed auto transmission.
To help with off-road performance, the last three models – with the 3.2 V6 – come with a Selec-Terrain all-wheel drive system providing five different driving modes. The selectable modes include Auto, Snow, Sand/Mud, Sport, and Rock. Each alter the drive system to suit calibration accordingly.
The new model comes with an independent front and rear suspension setup with frequency-sensitive damping. There’s also speed-sensitive electric power steering so the ratio is altered between tight city carparks and out on the open road, to help with efficiency.
In terms of equipment, all new models come with a Chrysler Uconnect infotainment system. The Sport comes with a 5.0-inch touch-screen while the rest of the range get an 8.4-inch unit. Models also come with Jeep’s latest full digital instrument display for the driver. Fiat Chrysler Group president and CEO Veronica Johns said,
“Cherokee is one of the most anticipated vehicles to enter the Australian market this year, bringing unmatched all-terrain capability, the segment’s first nine-speed automatic transmission and bold, distinctive styling.
“The Cherokee line-up will cater to all types of customers, from the city commuter who appreciates technology and comfort to the serious off-road enthusiast who demands dependable capability that only a Jeep can deliver.”
