Audi’s first RS-badged vehicle, the RS 2 Avant – a car with plenty of input from compatriot Porsche – put the four-ringed circus on the map in 1994. Now an example of the wild wagon is on the market for $105,000, right here in Australia.
Featuring a Porsche-tuned chassis, brakes and 2.2-litre five-cylinder turbo engine producing 235kW, the RS2 was one of Audi’s first truly exotic cars, with eye-watering levels of grip and rarity, with only 2891 built; just 180 of which were right-hand drive.
The Porsche connection is evident with the 964 wheels, indicator stalks, intake manifold and mirrors, plus the staggering (for the day) sub 5-second 0-100km/h time. The signature RS Blau paint and black leather seats with blue suede feature in this version. Also, check out that gorgeous steering wheel. A six-speed manual gearbox is the only choice, so slushbox fans best look elsewhere.
An interesting piece of trivia about the RS 2 is that it beat the McLaren F1 to 30mph (48km/h) when Autocar tested it in 1995.
For the aforementioned sum of money, you get a practical wagon, which can still humble a lot of today’s performance cars, regardless of wet or dry weather conditions, with added rarity. Head over to the CarSales ad for more info.
