Preliminary prices for the Mercedes-Benz X-Class ute have been announced for Australia, and you might be surprised to hear the entry points. Prices for the top V6 models will be announced further down the track.

In Australia Mercedes-Benz is offering the X-Class in three main grades; the Pure, Progressive, and the Power. Initially, these will be offered in cab chassis and traditional dual-cab form.

Kicking off is the X 220 d, which comes with a 2.3-litre turbo-diesel producing 120kW and 403Nm. It comes connected to a six-speed manual with rear-wheel drive or with part-time four-wheel drive.

Next up the range is the X 250 d. It uses a twin-turbo version of the above engine, both of which are borrowed from the X-Class’s donor car, the Nissan Navara. It develops 140kW and 450Nm, just like in the Navara, and comes with a six-speed manual or seven-speed auto, with part-time four-wheel drive.

Lastly, the X 350 d, which will arrive in mid-2018, comes with a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel producing a class-leading 190kW and 550Nm. It will only be available with the seven-speed auto and with full-time four-wheel drive.

Some of the highlights include 222mm of ground clearance, an overall length of 5340mm and width of 1920mm, and a towing capacity of up to 3500kg. The tray is also capable of loading in an Australia standard-size pallet in between the wheel arches.

The four-cylinder models are set to arrive in April, with the V6 arriving in the middle of 2018 as mentioned. See below for the initial Mercedes-Benz X-Class prices (excluding on-road costs):
