Ford Australia has announces local prices for the highly anticipated 2015 Ford Focus ST hot hatch. It comes with a fresh exterior design, updated interior, and various mechanical enhancements over the outgoing version.
Building on the already-excellent current ‘LW’ model Focus ST, the new ‘LZ’ version uses a re-tuned suspension system with new front springs, stiffer bushes, and revised damper rates for even sharper driving dynamics.
Under the bonnet the same 2.0-litre EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder remains. It produces 184kW of power and 340Nm of torque, and up to 360Nm during overboost (full throttle for short bursts). The unit is matched to a six-speed manual as standard.
Inside, Ford has revised the dash design and layout for easier functionality. There’s an 8.0-inch touch-screen SYNC 2 interface sitting in a flatter and less-complicated fascia. The driver also gets a sporty gauge cluster including readouts for boost pressure and oil temp, and a new flat-bottom sports steering wheel to play with.
As for the exterior design, the 2015 ST builds on the LZ Focus update. At the front there’s slimmer headlights and a revised front grille, while at the back is a new diffuser system with twin hexagonal exhaust tips. In Australia the body will be available in a new dark grey colour called Stealth, as well Tangerine Scream, Frozen White, Panther Black, Moondust Silver, and Race Red.
Ford Australia will officially launch the new ST on May 1. Prices start at $38,990 excluding on-roads, meaning the hot hatch will be $700 dearer than the outgoing model. At this stage there are no plans for the 136kW/400Nm TDCi turbo-diesel ST to make it to Australia.
Buyers will be able to select from a Technology Pack option ($2000) which adds various safety systems including blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane keeping aid.
