A passerby on his bike recently managed to capture some footage revealing the all-new 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class, completely undisguised. The car, which appears to be an AMG version or at least enhanced by AMG trimmings, was spotted on the Spanish island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands.
UPDATE: Fully unveiled 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class here
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be officially unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show next month. According to reports, this car was undergoing a photo shoot for the upcoming unveiling.
As previously speculated, the new A-Class will be a much more sporty hatch compared with the outgoing mini-MPV-style A-Class. By the looks of it, the new model is set to be quite a stunner, showcasing plenty of aggressiveness and modern lines and angles. And, more importantly, a lower profile body.
As far as official details go, there aren’t any as of yet. But according to various trustworthy sources, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz A-Class will come with a similar lineup of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines as seen in the new B-Class.
The lineup is expected to include an A 180 and A 200 of both CGI petrol and CDI diesel variety. Power figures are expected to range from 90kW to 115kW in petrol form, and 80kW to 100kW in diesel form. Other powertrain trim levels may also be introduced, including a hybrid.
What is set to be introduced in the sporty new hatch is a very hot hatch version tuned by in-house performance division AMG.
Dubbed the 2012 Mercedes-Benz A25 AMG, the hot version is set to feature a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine developing around 250kW. The vehicle captured in the video below might even be that variant, evident by large alloy wheels, an aggressive and low chin spoiler, side skirts, and large front bumper ducting.
Power is expected to be sent through an all-wheel drive drivetrain in the AMG; a setup that the Mercedes-Benz MFA platform (Mercedes-Benz Front drive Architecture), on which the A-Class is based, is capable of facilitating.
