Toyota Camry Atara R on sale in Australia from $31,820

As a way of spicing up the Camry range, Toyota Australia has introduced a new special edition model called the Toyota Camry Atara R. The limited edition gets various sporty enhancements and a 2kW power boost.

Although it’s not a full-blown, bespoke performance model, the Atara R does provide a touch of enthusiasm and exclusivity to the mix. Toyota plans to sell just 2500 examples through until the end of December.

From the outside the R can be distinguished by a neat yet slightly more aggressive bodykit than the standard Atara, with a sporty front bumper bar, a similarly aggressive rear bumper with a diffuser section, fog lights, side skirts, and a dual-outlet exhaust system.

The special model also comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, while the engine now produces 137kW from its 2.5-litre four-cylinder, instead of the standard 135kW rating. A specific torque figure hasn’t been mentioned so it’s likely the same 235Nm remains.

Lastly, the interior is also spruced up for the occasion, featuring a three-spoke sports steering wheel as well as a 6.1-inch LCD multimedia display with a reverse-parking camera.

The Toyota Camry Atara R is available in seven exterior colours, including Diamond White, Eclipse Black, Graphite, Magnetic Bronze, Reflex Blue, Silver Pearl, Wildfire.

Prices, as mentioned, start at $31,820 (excluding on-road costs).
