All-new Aston Martin Vantage debuts with twin-turbo V8

Brett Davis

This is it. The spanking new Aston Martin Vantage. It comes packed with more power, more tech, and more luxury than ever before.

Starting with the power. Under the bonnet you’ll find a Mercedes-AMG-derived 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that belts out 375kW and 685Nm. This comes connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission by ZF, with an electronic differential that’s capable of being open or 100 per cent locked.

Acceleration from 0-60mph (97km/h) takes a claimed 3.5 seconds, partly thanks to a surprisingly low kerb weight of 1530kg (dry), with a top speed of 314km/h.

To ensure the new Vantage is the best handling model yet, the ZF transmission is mounted at the rear of the car for an optimum 50:50 weight distribution, while torque vectoring adds further precision around corners, with a speed-dependent electric power steering system that has just 2.4 turns lock-to-lock.

As for the design, it’s already been previewed and teased a number of times now that we kinda already knew what it would look like. It’s bloody exquisite, as you would expect, borrowing some inspiration from the DB11 around at the front, with a unique rear end incorporating the full-width taillight treatment.

Inside, Aston Martin offers a range of finely crafted appointments, such as premium Alcantara and leather upholstery, high-quality materials, and of course plenty of exclusive options buyers can go through. From carbon fibre and the Sports Plus collection, Aston Martin is always ready to tailor the car to your tastes.

Production of the new model will begin soon, with the first customer deliveries scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2018. Prices in Australia will start at $299,950.
