The new Honda Accord Sport Hybrid has just been launched in Australia, showcasing the first of an all-new family of hybrid powertrains to be introduced by the company in the near future.

Incorporating Honda’s ‘Earth Dreams’ technology, the new model comes with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, paired with an electric CVT connected to two built-in motors, a lock-up clutch, drawing power from a lithium-ion battery.

The system offers a combined output of 146kW of power and 307Nm of torque, presenting a combined fuel consumption rate of just 4.6L/100km. Needless to say, it is one of the most economical vehicles in its class, even bettering the Toyota Camry hybrid’s 5.2L/100km consumption average.

Drivers are able to choose between three driving modes via the Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD), with full electric, hybrid, and petrol engine only modes. Like the regular Accord, there’s also Advanced Driver Assist System technology for added safety. Honda Australia director Stephen Collins spoke about the car, saying,

“The Accord Sport Hybrid is the first vehicle in Australia that features our all-new hybrid powertrain. Honda’s advanced technology delivers exceptional performance with outstanding fuel economy, ensuring our customers can have the best of both worlds.”
